This term is not approved by the TGA and has no set criteria to measure against—instead, equipment that is used in a hospital has been termed by some marketing and advertising personnel as " hospital grade" (such as a “hospital-grade” breast pump) because of its "guaranteed credibility" to the unknowing public.

Postpartum & Neonatal Units provide patients with the ability to express during their time in the hospital. Tips from your Midwives at Midwives Own Brand

  1. Stronger suction does not equal more breast milk
  2. Wash equipment in warm, soapy water, & dry well before putting the pump back together
  3. Sterilise silicone pump parts once every 24 hours
  4. Do not put any silicone parts - it warps the structure
  5. Its optimal to express in the morning when you have fuller breasts
  6. Ensure that the flange fits with room 2mm either side of the nipple - must not rub on the sides of the flange!
